When was the last time you checked in?

Spring has sprung! Or if you’re in #yyc, summer \ 25 degrees today! Wowa! Much love to you Mother Earth!

The start of a new season represents the only constant in life, change. Let it be an opportunity to check in. Check in re: the foods we ingest that fuel our bodies, the words that come out of our mouth & the thoughts that we allow to enter our mind. Disconnecting to reconnect with your body, mind & soul. Checking in. How do you feel? What’s going on? Is there something you need? How can you be of greater service to others, the planet? Whatever it is taking the time to get quiet, find some stillness & get real with yourself.

Find a comfortable seat. Take sukasana/easy pose/cross your legs so one ankle is directly in front of the other. Take your legs as wide as you need to find a comfortable position. Elevate your hips using a block or towel in order reduce any gripping in through the groin &/or hip flexors. Sit tall lengthening your spine. Head over heart. Heart over pelvis. Drawing the belly in. Lifting your torso up and out of your hips. Crown of the head extending towards the sky. Chest open. Shoulders draw back melting down away from your ears. Place your hands on your thighs, palms facing up. Take a big inhale through the nose. Fill the belly first. Allowing the breath to rise up into the chest expanding the diaphragm. Open the mouth & sigh out the exhale. Do this 2 more times maybe retaining the breath at the top of your inhalation for a count of 5 before releasing the exhalation out of the mouth with intention. Then. Allow the breath to return to it’s usually casual cadence. Notice how the breath naturally slows. Lengthens. Allow the breath to flow equally(Samavriti) in & out of your nostrils. Use every exhalation to allow your body to melt. Muscles become relaxed. Skin softens. Release any gripping In through your jaw. Softening your forehead. Allowing your skeletal system to hold you here. Feeling a sense of grounding. Support. Rootedness. Start to check in. How are you? What’s going on? Are you tense? Anxious? Stressed? Is there an injury that you’re working though? Are you in any pain? How’s your mind? Your heart? Just start to get really real with how you’re doing. The most important relationship is the one we have with ourselves so use this time to nurture you. Reconnect to YOU & what it is YOU need in order to be of service to others, the planet. With your hands being an extension of your heart lying open to receiving, get crystal clear about what you want, what you need & ask. Ask for it. It can be anything. Compassion. Love. Support. Strength. Confidence. The ability to hold yourself gently through those times of fear, doubt, shame, unworthiness…whatever self defeating labels you’re creating in your own mind. We are all full of unique talents and abilities. Sometimes we search to others for inspiration(which is very beneficial as well~it’s important to share our spirit!) when all the while, we’re full of our own! It’s there. You have everything you need. You are more than capable of anything you desire. Sometimes we just forget. We get so caught up in the external. So, disconnect from that. Even if it’s just for a few moments. Reconnect. What do you need? What do you want? Is it your physical being that needs a little extra attention? Your mind that needs some love? A soul that needs nurturing? Do have an idea you’d like to share with the world but you don’t feel personally ready to do so?…and, if so, what do you need to do for you in order to make that happen?

As you close your seating, place your left hand on your heart and right hand over top of your left. With pressure & great intention press your hands into your chest & silently(or out loud!) repeat the following, “I love you. I love you. I love you. You are amazing & I love the gracious! out of you, you beautiful soul you😍” Smile. Bring your hands in prayer at heart centre, pressing your thumbs in towards your sternum, chin slightly tucking into your chest simply honouring the source within each of us, our inner guide, our hearts….within us. Continue on with your day with a renewed sense of being. A being full of gratitude, excitement, confidence, smiles😊 & an understanding that life will take care of you.

…and, as always, you don’t need a new season to check in. Every breath, every moment is an opportunity to get real. Quiet. Still. And notice what’s going on with you. It’s not only beneficial for your own wellbeing, but everyone and everything around you. We are all humans having a human experience and I believe we all want to be the best that we can be. In order to be that, we must love & take good care of ourselves + align with our own truth.
